This is a story about a woman named Naomi. She had everything she needed. She had a husband and two sons. Then something sad happened. Her husband died. Then both of her sons died too.
Naomi was alone. She had no one to help her. She had no money. She was scared and sad. She decided to go back to her homeland where she had family. She thought maybe things could get better there.
Naomi had two daughters-in-law. Their names were Orpah and Ruth. Naomi told them they should stay behind. She told them to go back to their own families. She said, “I have nothing to give you. Your life will be hard if you come with me.”
Ruth Makes a Big Choice
Orpah listened to Naomi. She went back to her own family.
But Ruth said no. She said something important. She said, “I will go with you. Where you go, I will go. Your people will be my people. Your God will be my God.”
This is what loyalty means. It means staying with someone even when things are hard. It means you care about them more than you care about making your own life easy.
Ruth and Naomi traveled together to Naomi’s hometown. They had nothing. They didn’t know what would happen next. But they had each other.
Ruth Works Hard
Ruth and Naomi were very poor. They needed to eat. So Ruth did hard work. She went to the grain fields. She picked up the grain that fell on the ground after the workers cut it down. This work was called gleaning.
It was not easy work. It was hot and tiring. But Ruth did it anyway. She worked in the fields every day. She didn’t complain. She just worked hard to help take care of herself and Naomi.
The field she worked in belonged to a man named Boaz. Boaz was rich and kind. He noticed Ruth working in his field.
Boaz Shows Kindness
Boaz could see that Ruth was poor. He could see that she was working very hard. So Boaz did something kind. He told his workers to leave extra grain on the ground for Ruth. He wanted to make sure she had enough food.
Boaz talked to Ruth too. He was nice to her. He made sure she was safe. He gave her water when she was thirsty. He treated her with respect.
Ruth was grateful for Boaz’s kindness. She worked in his fields. Boaz made sure she was treated well.
Why Loyalty Matters
Think about Ruth’s choice again. She could have left Naomi. She could have gone back to her own family. But she didn’t. She stayed.
Loyalty is when you stick with someone even when things are hard. It’s when you care about someone so much that you stay by their side.
We don’t hear much about loyalty these days. People change their minds a lot. They move on when things get difficult. But Ruth showed us what loyalty looks like. She stayed with Naomi. She worked hard. She was kind to everyone she met.
That’s what Ruth did. And because of her loyalty, good things happened.
Trusting God When You Can’t See What Happens Next
Ruth didn’t know what the future would bring. She didn’t have a plan. She just did the right thing every day.
She was kind to Naomi. She worked hard. She was respectful to Boaz. She didn’t complain about being poor. She just trusted that God was taking care of her.
And you know what? God was. Boaz ended up marrying Ruth. They had a son together. Naomi became a grandmother. Everything that was lost came back.
Ruth trusted God. She did the right thing. And her life was blessed because of it.
What This Story Teaches Us
The story of Ruth in the Bible teaches us three important things.
First, kindness matters. Boaz saw someone in need and helped her. When you see someone who needs help, you can choose to be kind like Boaz was.
Second, loyalty is powerful. Ruth stayed with Naomi even though it was hard. She showed us that being loyal to the people you love is important.
Third, trust in God. Ruth didn’t know how things would work out. But she did the right thing and trusted that God would take care of her.
That’s the story of Ruth. And that’s the lesson she teaches us.
